Hireology Career Mobility Spotlight: Mary Freese

At Hireology, creating a work environment that enhances the employee experience professionally is a top priority. In fact, a foundational pillar of our EVP is that Hireologists are provided with a platform to accelerate their career development faster than elsewhere. We aspire to be the best place Hireologists will ever work.

It’s our daily mission to support our team members wherever they may find themselves in their professional journeys. We aim to ensure that every individual feels fully equipped to embrace their next step, regardless of its direction.

At Hireology, we foster professional development through both conventional and unconventional paths. These avenues empower our employees to broaden their skill sets, embrace new experiences, and find fulfillment in their daily tasks, knowing they have the resources to exceed expectations and realize their utmost potential.

Every month, we spotlight a different Hireology employee who has had an inspiring professional journey in our Career Mobility Spotlight series. For October, we’re shining a light on Mary Freese, who started in our Customer Success department back in 2021 and has most recently been promoted to a Product Manager. Read on to learn more about Mary’s non-traditional path here at Hireology.

When did you start with Hireology? What role did you start in? What role are you in currently?

I started with Hireology in August 2021 as a Senior Customer Success Manager, and in January 2023, I was promoted to Strategic Customer Success Manager. Now, I am thrilled to say I am a Product Manager on the R&D side of the house!

Describe how you’ve grown professionally since you started working for us.

Before Hireology, my background was in Professional Legal Services & Software, focused on patent and trademark work. Since I didn’t have a degree in law, I wasn’t afforded as much opportunity for travel or public speaking. Since joining here, I’ve had the opportunity to present at several webinars and conferences—both internally and externally—all over the country, which has been a great way to step outside my comfort zone and grow my skill set.

What have been your most significant achievements working for Hireology?

I’m incredibly proud to have transitioned to the Product team, having started in Customer Success. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support and mentorship from my team and leaders. Looking a little further back, I’m also proud to have earned a spot on the 2024 Presidents Club trip, achieving 101% net retention and the largest book growth in Customer Success in 2023.

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is looking to move up in their role or has shown interest in a different role or department?

Make sure to voice your interest to your manager first, but don’t be shy to advocate for yourself internally. Get involved and learn about other parts of the company through fun donuts, mentorship programs, or peer groups.

What do you like about our company culture?

What stands out to me most about Hireology’s culture is the inclusivity. From day one, I’ve felt like I could bring my true self to work, and I see that across the board. Everyone is encouraged to share their perspectives, no matter their background or role. It’s refreshing to work somewhere where being yourself is truly valued!

What makes you want to stay at our organization?

For me, the people are what make Hireology so special, and I’m sure I’m not the first person to say that. Beyond that, the opportunities for growth and learning keep me motivated—like recently taking advantage of the learning budget to take a class at Northwestern.

What is the best advice you would give to someone just starting at the company?

Hireology moves pretty fast—if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you might miss out on some great opportunities. Pretty sure Ferris Bueller said that.

For real though, get involved, meet people, and ask lots of questions. There’s so much to learn here, and everyone is more than willing to help. Whether it’s through peer groups, at Connect, or just sitting with someone new in the Sea of Green, the more you connect, the more you’ll grow.

Which one of Hireology’s Core Values or belief statements resonates with you the most? Why?

“Own the Result.” I firmly believe that to take credit for your successes, you also have to take ownership of your failures. There’s no success without a few missteps along the way!
