Ready or Not: The Realities of Hiring Post-COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted dealerships across every department.
Before the outbreak, unemployment was historically low, resulting in a tight labor market. But as a result of stay-at-home mandates and social distancing guidelines related to the pandemic, millions of Americans filed for unemployment, leading to a drastic shift in the labor market.
For many dealerships, this crisis is a reminder of another challenging time in the U.S. economy – the 2008 and 2009 recession. A common theme among the dealerships that survived and thrived through the recession was that these dealerships adopted a people-first strategy.
With many industries outside retail automotive – including travel and hospitality – facing layoffs, job seekers across the country have applied for new roles and, in some cases, decided to seek out new career paths. This gives your team the opportunity to capture the attention of talent who might not have otherwise considered working for a dealership.
