The time had come. I needed a talented individual to assist my marketing needs at Homescout Realty, and I wanted to find someone to create the perfect visuals for my words. A Graphic Design Intern. It was an exciting, adrenaline-rush kind of a feeling, and I was eager to bring someone on board. Butterflies swarmed my stomach and positive thoughts flooded my mind.
But then I slowed down and started to think more realistically. How would I find the right candidate?
I had gone through my share of interviews where I was the one applying for the job or position, but I had never been the one actually asking the questions and controlling the conversation. I was never responsible for ensuring that the interview went smooth and all the important matters were discussed. How would I ask the right questions and know who was the best fit for the position? What if I forgot what I wanted to say and there was an awkward silence?
Yes, I was once in a sorority and rushed girls into the house. But no, questions like what’s your major and how do you like school would not suffice. I was in the real world now and the conversation I was about to have meant much more.
It is fair to say that the pressure was on, and I was under the spotlight. I started to overthink everything from saying hello and goodbye to even deciding what transitions and responses to use. This was not something to take lightly, and I was extremely nervous. I started to panic.
What would I have done without Hireology?
After my Director of Marketing, Erin Wasson, introduced me to Hireology, all of my doubts and fears soon disappeared. The company equipped me the technology to hire the perfect Graphic Design Intern and provided me with all the questions to ask to ensure I was hiring for culture fit. Before I knew it, I was drifting into interview heaven.
Five minutes before the phone interview, I logged into my Hireology account and pulled up Clara Thames, the young woman who immediately won over my heart and is our current Graphic Design Intern. When I clicked Clara’s name, I instantly felt reassured. Hireology makes hiring interns easy.
