Millennials are a completely different type of person. They grew up completely different than the people already in the workplace. Because of this, they have a totally different set of values and look for different things from their work. Because of this, managing millennials the correct way can be a very tough task.

Lucky for you, Barbara Milhizer has given some tips to making managing millennials a much easier and more enjoyable task.

1. Give them something to talk about.

Be sure to provide talking points and photo-ops for your millennials. Also, publicly celebrate your company’s success in creating a great workplace, commit to giving back to your community, and emphasize employee recognition.

2. Get in the game.

Your millennials are continuously thinking up new and innovative ideas and are not shy about sharing them. Give them the opportunity to share their ideas and run with them is key in managing millennials. Even more, it is important to hold them accountable for following up on these ideas.

3. Recognize their uniqueness.

Millennials are very high maintenance, which can cause the current employees to feel extremely frustrated. However, they have a unique blend of characteristics that may be very useful for managers. Often, millennials need to identify with a brand, cause, or position. Companies can use this to their advantage.

4. Give a lot of feedback.

Millennials need feedback in order to function properly. Because of this, it is important that you give them a lot of feedback and very frequently as well as a lot of recognition.

Overall, millennials can be a great addition to your company. However, you have to make sure you are managing them in the correct way in order to keep them around. Millennials are a different breed of worker than most managers are used to. However, in the upcoming years, millennials will be taking over the workforce. Make sure you know how to manage them!
