‘Honesty is the best policy’ is an old saying everybody knows, but it’s easier said than done. If you’re familiar with any business, then you appreciate this challenge when you’re working to ensure the success of your company.

Confronting the need for honesty is integral to building any business and developing strong relationships. Transparency between leadership and the rest of the team is one of the few things that can either help a company flourish or buckle under the demanding circumstances every business faces at some point.

If done right, sincere communication can be a key ingredient for your business’ success; and it starts with the hiring process.

In a recent article published in Crain’s Chicago Business, Hireology CEO Adam Robinson spoke about the importance of honesty during the interview process:

‘When a candidate asks me about funding, profitability, churn rates, whatever they ask, I give them the unvarnished truth,’ said Robinson. ‘If you show the ugly on the front end and they still want in, then everything is above the table when you start the relationship. If the experience is vastly different than the expectation, that can lead to turnover and a bad reputation.’

Building a business is no simple task, yet there are ways to alleviate the stress of hiring. Using a structured hiring process, along with honest, open communication can do wonders for your business. Without it, you might just be adding more stress to your plate with the potential headache of dealing with turnover.
