Name: Lacey Wright
Role: UX Designer
Lacey, along with her beloved service dog Bentley, joined Hireology as a visual designer on the marketing team in August of 2018. Within one year, she was promoted to a UX designer on the product team where she now works 100% remote. Prior to Hireology, Lacey worked as a visual designer on Groupon’s marketing team.
Lacey, can you tell readers a bit about what you’re working on?
I recently joined the user experience (UX) team as a designer, where I’m working with the Sourcing team to improve the application experience for our customers and to help draw in more quality candidates. I also get to work with the Career Sites pod, where I’m starting to help out with designing and improving Career Sites. I love it!
What path did you take to get where you are today?
I started out at Hireology as the visual designer on the marketing team. Before that, I was a visual designer working for Groupon. I saw an opportunity to help develop another brand and was super excited to get the role at Hireology. During my time on marketing, I was given the opportunity to design a career site mock and realized that was the direction I was most interested in. I worked on Hireology’s marketing website, and ultimately switched to UX when a position opened up. My manager (and team) were super supportive of the move, and I’m really grateful.
What made you join Hireology?
I loved the core values listed on the site. It was also really important to me to join a company that was transparent with its employees, and that accepted people of all stripes. I have a service dog with me all the time, and it was really refreshing to interview with a company and be treated just the same during the interview process. During onboarding, I also received a survey from the people team that asked what my preferred pronouns were. As someone from the LGBTQIA+ community, that meant A LOT. I knew I made the right choice by joining the Hireology team.
What do you find most exciting about working here?
I’m surrounded by so many amazing, talented people. There are so many learning opportunities at Hireology and everybody has been hired because they’re outstanding at what they do. You leave discussions just amazed and so happy, because your coworkers are smart and supportive.
What is your favorite core value and why?
I’m sure everybody says this, but I love the “No Assholes” value. It’s important to me to be surrounded by and work with people who are kind, and also phenomenal at what they do. It’s a privilege to be challenged to be better, but always in a constructive way that makes you feel like you can rise to the challenge.
How would you define Hireology’s culture?
Engaging. Challenging. Safe – not in a “take-no-risks” way, but in a “everybody gets a seat at the table” way.
What is one thing that people don’t know about you?
I’m a mezzo soprano who majored in vocal performance for one year before I switched to photography. I can still bust a tune. I was also Mrs. Potts in my high school’s production of Beauty and the Beast.
One of Hireology’s benefits is that we offer employees is unlimited vacation. What will you be doing next to utilize this perk?
I have trips planned to North Carolina and Lake Tahoe with family. But my next adventure that I’m currently planning is a backpacking trip to Colorado for myself and Bentley. Those mountains.
