Name: Fernando Diaz

Team: Sales, Auto

Role: Account Executive

Fernando has been with Hireology since 2017 and runs the Midwest sales for our Automotive vertical. Prior to Hireology, Fernando worked as the Onboarding Manager for Groupon, where he developed skills to uncover challenges in SaaS sales.

Fernando, can you tell readers a bit about what you’re working on?

Right now our Sales Team is working on finishing up the second quarter of the year strong to ensure we hit our target number. I have some big things in the pipeline that can help move the needle in the right direction (knock on wood).

What path did you take to get where you are today?

My path is a long and winding one. I graduated from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign (way back in the day) and jumped into the banking industry. Since then, I did some consulting, managed a bar in Chicago and ran a team at Groupon.  Ultimately it brought me to where I am today, happy as a clam at Hireology.

Why did you decide to join Hireology?

Every career move I made was to join a smaller organization. I really enjoyed my time at Groupon watching it grow to where it is today but I missed having my day-to-day activity actually impact the bottom line. Our VP of Sales Max Lowenbaum, who was also my first manager at Groupon, talked about the opportunity to really make a difference here at Hireology. This opportunity to jump on the train and make an impact was too hard to turn down.

What do you find most exciting about working here?

The ability to talk to dealerships and learn about their stories and challenges is one of my favorite things about my job. Being able to offer a solution I believe in, to solve their challenges and really impact their business is the exciting result of my conversations with them.

What is your favorite Hireology core value and why?

Eager to Improve is my favorite core value because it is such a motto that I live my life by. I am curious by nature so I always want to know why we do something or how another team looks at a situation. This curiosity has served me well when working with other departments within the company. If you are not learning something new each day you are not improving yourself.

Where in the office do you do your best thinking?

My best thinking happens at my desk because I can bounce ideas off of my fellow sales people and my manager. I love to find strategic ways to turn a NO from a customer to a YES. That’s always such an awesome feeling!

How would you define Hireology’s culture?

I have never been part of an organization that really followed what they preached. The core values are not just pictures on the wall, they are used in every interaction and meeting we have with one another. Everyone is always willing to lend a hand or challenge you to ensure you do your best work. I honestly look forward to coming to work everyday.

What is it like being a part of Hireology’s first Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and what does that mean to you?

I loved having the opportunity to raise my hand and be part of Hireology’s first DEI Council. It is very exciting to help shape the company’s strategy behind DEI and have a lot of interaction with Leadership about the future of the company. DEI is becoming a must-have for many new candidates and being part of the Council gives me the opportunity to set up future Hireologists with an environment that nurtures their talents and is inviting.

What is one thing that people don’t know about you?

My team knows this but most people don’t know I am an avid bowler. I’ve been bowling in leagues since I was 10 years old and continue to play year round. I travel for tournaments and have won a good chunk of money from them. For those who want to know, I average 190 and have hit 279 three times! (That’s every strike but the last one)

One of Hireology’s benefits that we offer employees is unlimited vacation. What will you be doing next to utilize this perk?

I have a couple of trips that I am planning but the unlimited vacation will come in handy when I plan my trip to Vietnam and Thailand. That’s a two week trip for sure!
