On December 5, Hireology welcomed participants from three local Chicago organizations to our first Insp(H)ireology event. The purpose of the event was to increase awareness of tech career paths and help provide economic opportunity for communities that are typically underserved in Chicago.
The organizations that participated in the event included:
- re:work training: Rework’s mission is to reshape hiring trends and empower Chicago’s underrepresented communities by providing free career training to diverse, motivated individuals looking to jump start their career in tech sales.
- America Needs You: This organization fights for economic mobility for ambitious, first-generation college students. We do this by providing transformative mentorship and intensive career development. In the Chicago area, America needs you partners with UIC, City Colleges of Chicago, DePaul University, and other colleges and universities to recruit students.
- Urban Alliance / Obama Youth Jobs Corps: In partnership with the Obama Foundation, Urban Alliance created the Obama Youth Jobs Corps (OYJC) to increase access to economic opportunity for high school students in some of the most underserved communities in Chicago.
During Insp(H)ireology, more than 30 attendees had the opportunity to learn from Hireology employees firsthand about what it’s like to work for a growing technology company. Featured sessions at the event focused on job shadowing, resume expertise and mock interviews.
Hireology is one of the fastest-growing companies in Chicago and helps more than 7,000 businesses tackle their biggest challenge today – building their best teams. In this tight labor market and applicant-economy, a top hiring challenge is the size of the talent pool employers get to pull from, because there are currently more open roles than qualified talent to fill them.
One way that businesses can overcome this obstacle is expanding their talent pool by driving greater awareness to their company and open positions. This is even more important when it comes to reaching diverse talent pools who may not have considered the company or the field previously.
By hosting the Insp(H)ireology event, organizations from underserved communities had the opportunity to learn more about the jobs available to them in the Chicago tech community. At the same time, the event provided support to local organizations by spreading awareness for open roles, just as we do every day for our customers.
