Sometimes it can feel like managers and supervisors expect their hiring managers to work magic. They want you to hire exceptional candidates, yet the budget they give you to work with can barely buy a meal at McDonald’s. So what are you supposed to do? Settle and hire the best person from the limited candidate pool? Of course not.
While hiring is a costly process, there are plenty of options out there for those of us who have limited budgets. But before we dive in, it’s important to note that the following sources should only be used to compliment more traditional hiring efforts – such as posting to job boards and implementing an employee referral program. With that being said, let’s take a look at some great free hiring tools:
Time is money, and when you’re spending hours digging through dozens of unqualified candidates, you’re basically flushing your hiring budget down the drain. But what if we told you there was a free way to help reduce the time you spend screening candidates?
Developing a survey with true or false questions will help eliminate candidates whose answers do not align with the responsibilitiesof the role and the values of your company. So rather than looking at every single resume that comes in, you only have to look at those of candidate’s who scored well on the survey.
Sure, the survey isn’t the most data-driven approach, but until you can afford a hiring tool, it’s a good alternative.
Launched by the US Department of Labor, Career One Stop is dedicated to helping companies hire and train employees. Now it doesn’t offer “tools” to help you hire, but it has great information regarding hiring best practices, retention strategies, and hiring laws.
