First and foremost, we hope all who have been impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are safe and sound. We understand that this is an extraordinarily difficult time, and we’re prepared to help you manage some of the challenges you may currently be facing.

The economic impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma is among the largest of any natural disaster and retail automotive is one of the hardest hit industries in the wake of the storms. Approximately 1 million vehicles were destroyed between the hurricanes and countless others were seriously damaged. And while dealerships in Florida and Texas are still getting back on their feet, many car owners in the affected areas have started replacing their vehicles or – if the damage isn’t too significant – getting them repaired.

What the Dealership Road to Recovery Looks Like

With car buyers in Texas and Florida rushing to replace their vehicles, among other factors, the retail automotive industry saw a 6.3% year-over-year sales surge in September following eight straight months of sales decline. This has also led to many dealerships in the Southeast experiencing unprecedented store traffic and inventory shortages. To meet the demand dealerships in the region are facing, some automakers have diverted production from other markets to locations impacted by the hurricanes.

As dealerships experience a surge in business  from consumers looking to replace or repair their cars, it’s critical to have the right team in place to provide customers with a quick, seamless experience. NADA Emergency Relief Fund

To help the thousands of dealership employees and their families who suffered devastating losses from the hurricanes, NADA set up an emergency relief fund. NADA is encouraging members of its dealer community to donate to the fund, and individual dealership employees impacted by the flooding can directly apply for assistance. The emergency relief fund was initially established in 1992 and since then, more than $6 million has been distributed to 9,200 dealership employees in need.

Our thoughts are with all who have been affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and we’re here to help in any way we can with your hiring and talent management needs as the recovery effort continues.
